University of Tlemcen honors its African champions in gymnastics and swimming

In a vibrant and friendly sporting atmosphere, the rector of the University of Tlemcen received, on Monday, June 8, 2026, a delegation of student-athletes who have proudly represented Algeria in recent continental competitions.
The reception included Hamidi Yasser Nadir and Hamidi Siham, both crowned African champions in gymnastics, as well as Benmansour Rima, who secured a gold medal in swimming, reflecting the growing excellence and competitiveness of university-level sports within the institution.
The ceremony was attended by the athletes’ families, university officials, and members of the media. It provided an opportunity to recognize the outstanding performances achieved and to highlight the quality of preparation and coaching that contributed to these remarkable results.
The rector of the University of Tlemcen expressed his pride in these high-level achievements, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to supporting elite student-athletes in balancing academic success with sporting excellence.
Discussions also addressed the main challenges faced by university athletes, particularly the demands of managing dual careers in education and elite sport, as well as the importance of strengthening support and monitoring mechanisms.
Through this initiative, the University of Tlemcen reaffirms its role as a nurturing ground for sporting talent, dedicated to producing athletes capable of representing Algeria with distinction and contributing to the international reputation of Algerian university sports.
