The proceedings of the second and final day of the international colloquium titled “Africa–Europe: Demographic Dynamics, Youth, Migration and Development”, organized within the framework of the Jean Monnet Project funded by the European Union, continued this Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the “Mustapha Djafour” auditorium of the downtown university campus.

This day was marked by a deepening of discussions on issues related to health, innovation, and the epidemiological transition, with the participation of international experts and academic researchers, both in person and online via videoconference.

The morning sessions began with an online international panel dedicated to the challenges of youth, innovation, and cooperation in the face of demographic changes, bringing together researchers from several European universities. A presentation of the Jean Monnet Programme and its youth component was then delivered by Mr. Alexandros Ligoras.

The scientific sessions subsequently addressed more specialized themes. The fourth session (A), chaired by P.Nour Eddine DAOUDI, focused on issues related to health, ageing, and the epidemiological transition, featuring a presentation by Pr .Ali HAMZA CHERIF on the socio-economic challenges and public policies linked to population ageing in Algeria, as well as several papers on global health governance, health transitions, and maternal health.

In parallel, session (B), conducted in Arabic and chaired by Pr Nadjlaa MORTAD, focused on demographic and epidemiological transformations in the Maghreb, the valorization of the demographic dividend in Algeria, as well as irregular African migration to Europe in a changing geopolitical context.

The fifth session continued discussions on population dynamics, ageing in Africa, and the impact of migration on Algerian medical expertise in Europe.

The proceedings concluded with the presentation of the summary reports by the session chairs and the adoption of final recommendations, emphasizing the need to strengthen cooperation and scientific research between the two shores of the Mediterranean in order to address demographic and health challenges.

The official closing of the event was followed by a ceremony honoring the participating delegations.
