The work of the International Symposium on Colonial Land Policy in Algeria in the 19th Century: The Aims, Legislation, and Implications on Algerian Society, organized by the University of Tlemcen in collaboration with the Joint Algerian History and Memory of the Ministry of Mujahedin and Rights Holders, was closed this Thursday, January 18, 2024.
Academic researchers from the country and abroad took part in the conference, where they stressed that this policy was a crucial instrument of colonization, aiming at the control and privatization of Algerian lands for the benefit of French settlers.
The need for an objective review of Algeria’s land history was highlighted for a better understanding of land policies and practices during this period and their impact on Algerian society.
