On November 19 and 20, 2024, the Central Library of the new campus hosted an international conference on the theme "The Alterity in Question: The Conceptualization of the Other in Contemporary Thought (East/West)." Organized by the Research Laboratory of the Faculty of Arts and Languages, this event brought together internationally renowned experts to delve into the representations and constructions of the Other in the historical and contemporary relations between the East and the West.
Coordinated by Latifa Sari Mohammed and Souad Baghli Berbar, the second edition of the conference offered a rich and varied program. Participants from diverse disciplinary backgrounds conducted in-depth analyses of the stereotypes, prejudices, and mutual representations that have shaped these complex relations. They also examined the underlying dynamics of these interactions and discussed their impacts on contemporary societies.
Thanks to a hybrid format, the conference allowed a wide audience of researchers, scholars, and individuals interested in issues of identity, culture, and representation to actively engage in the debates, thus enriching the exchanges.
This conference was a significant moment of reflection and exchange, offering new perspectives on the construction of otherness and its implications in the contemporary world.
