The Laboratory of Civilizational and Intellectual Studies, in coordination with the Department of History at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, organized a national conference on "The Press in Western Algeria during the French Colonial Period 1919-1962" on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Abou El Kacem Saadallah Hall. The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the administrative, scientific, and pedagogical bodies of the faculty and department, as well as the President of the Higher Education Committee at the Wilaya People's Assembly (APW).
The event addressed several aspects of the history of the Algerian press during the colonial period. The speakers highlighted the national role of the press, its influence in the reformist movement, and its contribution to spreading political and cultural awareness. The conference explored various topics, including French and Arabic newspapers, the activities of the Association of Muslim Scholars, and the social and political issues reflected in the press of the time.
