As part of the commemoration of the 49th anniversary of the declaration of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Tlemcen University is organizing exceptional student events from February 9 to 12, 2025. These activities bring together 150 Sahrawi students from various Algerian universities, along with a delegation from the Union of Sahrawi Students, led by the Secretary General of the Union. The event also features representatives from the Sahrawi Embassy in Algiers, the Sahrawi Ministry of National Education, and a high-level political and cultural delegation. The event is coordinated with the Free Algerian Students Collective – Tlemcen – and the office of Bakina El Bachir, the representative of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in the Tlemcen Province.

The first day of the event was attended by Mr. Youcef Bechlaoui, Wali of Tlemcen, the President of the Provincial People's Assembly, as well as local civil and military authorities, Professor Mourad Meghachou, Director of Tlemcen University, and the deans of the faculties.

The celebrations officially began on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the Abdelkrim Dali Cultural Palace in Tlemcen, with formal speeches highlighting the history and struggle of the Sahrawi people. The morning was marked by an exhibition showcasing the history of the Sahrawi people's struggle, alongside a theatrical performance reflecting the key stages and decisive moments of the Sahrawi cause.

The event program continues for four days, featuring intellectual conferences, cultural activities, and solidarity events that emphasize the deep historical ties between Algeria and Western Sahara and reaffirm the principle of the right of peoples to self-determination.
