Ministerial Visit to Tlemcen: Supporting the Partnership Between the University and the Economic Sector and Strengthening African Cooperation in Scientific Research

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research paid a working and inspection visit to the Wilaya of Tlemcen,on Thursday, February 27, 202,. This visit was part of a broader approach aimed at inspecting various university infrastructures and innovative projects that seek to develop scientific research and support student initiatives in the field of startups.
 
The minister was received by the Wali of Tlemcen, Mr. Bechlaoui Youcef, along with local civil and military authorities, the Rector of Tlemcen University, Prof. Mourad Meghachou, vice-rectors, professors, students, and social partners.
 
M.Kamel Baddari began his visit at the i2E Student Center by inaugurating a fabrication laboratory (FabLab), an advanced technological space that enables students and entrepreneurs to bring their innovative ideas to life and turn them into tangible projects. He also oversaw the signing of agreements between Tlemcen University and economic institutions. Additionally, the new headquarters for startups was inaugurated, reflecting the strategic direction aimed at encouraging students to embrace entrepreneurship.
 
During this stage, several subsidiary institutions and emerging micro-enterprises established by students were showcased. The Minister listened attentively to detailed explanations about these promising projects, which contribute to local economic development and promote innovation.
 
At the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences and Earth and Universe Sciences, he met with African students, highlighting the African dimension of Tlemcen University. The Rector, Prof. Mourad Meghachou, emphasized the key role of the Pan-African University Institute for Water and Energy Sciences, including Climate Change (PAUWES), as an academic bridge between Algeria and African countries.
 
In his speech, the minister stressed the importance of expanding this cooperation to strengthen academic mobility, encourage joint scientific research, and create a multicultural educational environment that enhances students' scientific capabilities. He also praised the central role that Tlemcen University plays in this field, highlighting its distinguished position in the academic landscape, and affirmed the ministry’s continued support for all initiatives reinforcing this strategic direction.
 
This visit reflects the great importance that high authorities place on developing the higher education sector and its increased openness to the economic and social environment. The minister also emphasized the importance of activating the partnership between the university and the business sector while encouraging students to innovate and engage in entrepreneurship to stimulate the economy in a sustainable manner. He further underlined the need for high-quality education tailored to labor market demands, contributing to the creation of a new generation of skilled individuals capable of meeting future challenges and actively participating in the country’s development.
